How to use filters on TikTok

TikTok has become increasingly popular as a social media platform amongst all age groups nowadays. The app offers many interesting in-built features which make content creation much easier and quicker. From recording to editing, you can do it all within the app. One of these features which is making news currently is the filters. TikTok filters let users instantly change or enhance their videos. They can add visual effects, alter colors or even transform a user's appearance during recording or after.

TikTok also has another feature called Effects. These are similar but different from the filters. Filters are typically more subtle adjustments to the video's color, tone, contrast, and overall aesthetic. They are like a photographic filter that changes the mood or style of your video (e.g., a "vintage" filter, a "warm" filter). Whereas Effects are much broader and more dynamic. They often involve augmented reality (AR) elements, interactive transformations, or significant visual/audio alterations that go beyond simple color grading.

You can use the filters following these simple steps:

  1. Open TikTok and Tap the Plus (+) Button: Launch the TikTok app and tap the large + (plus) icon at the bottom center of the screen. This will open the camera.
  1. Locate "Filters": You'll see a "Filters" icon. Tap it.
  1. Browse, select and adjust intensity: A row of filters will appear at the bottom. Swipe left or right to browse through them. Tap a filter to apply it. If you've selected a filter, you might see a slider above the filter options. Drag this slider left or right to adjust the intensity of the filter, making it more or less subtle.

  1. Apply the filter:  Once you've found the filter or effect you want, tap anywhere on the screen to exit the effects/filters panel and return to the camera view. Now, press and hold the record button to start filming your video with the chosen filter/effect applied. Or if you have uploaded an already recorded video click next.

  1. Proceed to Post: You can then add a catchy title, description and hashtags. These also help to get your video on the for you page. You can then proceed to post your content.

Filters are key to getting your TikTok videos on the For You Page because they're a major part of trends. You can easily save your favorite filters or discover new ones to keep your content fresh.
